Steam Press is a boutique publisher of remarkable New Zealand science fiction and fantasy. We aim to curate the best speculative fiction in Aotearoa and present it to the world in the form of gorgeous paperbacks and svelte ebooks.

Our most recent book is The Wind City by Summer Wigmore – a hilarious urban fantasy featuring Māori gods and monsters getting up to mischief in Wellington. Reviewers are describing it as rollicking, whimsical, and outlandish, it has been called “a Kiwi answer to Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere”, and on top of all that it has just been shortlisted for the 2014 Sir Julius Vogel Award for best novel. Awesome! (And thoroughly deserved, we say.)

Our other books of 2013 were Joseph Edward Ryan’s The Factory World, a fantastic literary sci fi that crosses Cormac McCarthy's The Road with The Wizard of Oz, and DownMind by VO Blum, has been called “proper science fiction that takes a serious view of the future”.

We have three books lined up for 2014, including our first children’s books (hurrah!) so stay tuned, and we will keep you posted as more details become available...

Thank you for your support – we hope your year is off to an awesome start.
