WELCOME TO STEAM PRESS

Steam Press publishes remarkable New Zealand science fiction and fantasy for readers who are looking for something a little different. Established in 2011, we published three books in 2012 and all of these have been shortlisted for Sir Julius Vogel Awards. We now have three titles lined up for 2013, and hope to be able to announce our first book for 2014 before too long...

Joseph Edward Ryan’s The Factory World is being released in paperback in mid July, and is now available in serial form in the Kindle store. The first part can be downloaded here. The Factory World is a fantastic literary sci fi that crosses Cormac McCarthy's The Road with The Wizard of Oz, and the early reviews have been fantastic.

Steam Press will be publishing VO Blum’s psycho-experimental novella DownMind in September. This was judged the best novella in the 2012 SpecFicNZ / Steam Press fiction competition, and we are are very pleased to have the opportunity to publish this story of a fight to save humanity and the planet from a global threat that few believe could possibly exist.

Our third book for the year is an urban fantasy that’ll see Maori gods and monsters stalking the streets of Wellington, which can’t end well. That should be out in November, and we are really excited about this awesome story from another talented new author.

Thank you everyone for your support – if it wasn’t for New Zealand’s brilliant authors, booksellers, and readers we simply wouldn’t be here today.
